Khuzestan is one of the top provinces of the country in terms of producing and exporting dates. This province provides half of the volume of exports of this product in Iran. In addition to high quality, Khuzestan's dates have a great variety and is the most important souvenir of this province. Here are some examples of Khuzestan dates. Estemaran: This date is the most famous date is Khuzestan which accounts for more than 70% of the province's production. These dates are from the country's export products, and since it is semi-dry, it is capable of maintaining great commercial value. When Estemaran dates are raw, they are bright yellow, and when it reaches its full color, the yellow color turns to brown. The time for harvesting these dates are between mid-September to early October. Khezrawi: This type of date is the second date of the province in terms of cultivation and volume of exports. Khezrawi is a semi-arid and early cultivar, it has a soft texture and its fullness is bright brown. Zahedi: It is a dry and late cultivar that begins to be harvested in late September. Warehousing and easy transportation has made Zahedi a suitable type of export dates. Kabkab: It is one of the more varied types, which has a very sweet flavor, and the quite ripen product is dark brown. This product of Khuzestan has a higher quality in some parts of the province such as Behbahan. Barhi: this is from the late forms, and because of this, their harvest begins in late September. Khasoyi: A good variety of this product is produced in some parts of the province such as Behbahan. These dates turn to red when it is fully ripen. Shekar: Early and almost dry varieties, whose production is prevalent in northern Khuzestan. This type of date is sweeter than the other date varieties, and it is completely brownish. Halvayi: this is one of the high quality and known varieties of dates that has soft tissue and wrinkles when it is fully ripen. The production of this type of date is very high, it is relatively resistant to rain and humidity. Generally, it is resistant to all kind of damage, and it can be easily stored.


This native pastry is baked in many parts of the province. However, it is more common in some areas such as Khorramshahr, Dezful and Shushtar. It is a kind of cookie, which cumin is used as the paste in its middle layer. It is also made from dates and is decorated with egg yolk and sesame. Citrus of Khuzestan

Dezful is one of the country's top agricultural areas. Dezful that is a non-mountainous part is the most prosperous agricultural area in Khuzestan province. Fertile soil and abundant water provide good conditions for the cultivation of citrus and many other vegetable. In addition to the unsurpassed variety of agricultural products in Dezful (more than 60 types of products), this region is the country's first producer and exporter of roses and other flowers. More than 12 types of citrus are produced in Dezful, most notably local or native oranges. This kind of orange is the healthiest and best-selling orange of the city and has a lot of fans throughout the country because of its sweet taste and smell. A native orange of Dezful is an average sized juicy orange that has many seeds. The harvest of Dezful oranges starts from November and continues until mid-March. At the same time as the harvest season, Dezfouli Orange is available in all local markets of the province.

Handcraft souvenirs


This is among the usual handicrafts in southern Iran, and is prevalent in Khuzestan province especially in Dezful. The Kapu is in fact a kind of mattress that uses colorful yarns to decorate the wicker. Of course, the texture is also different in the common straw hat. In this method, the texture that is known for its special quality, its greater strength and ability to mold better than the other products wrap the fibers from the leaves of the date around a marshy straw called "Kortk". The art of the hands of the Arab tribes and the Bakhtiari province is usually woven on horizontal and in some areas on vertical arches. This type of wool has plenty of cotton and wool. In terms of color variations, there are limited colors, most of which are dark. Gelim Afshar Khuzestan is usually woven in a dashed tissue, but some of the province's artists make it into a twisted-pair technique. Ahrami Bafi

In the past, Khuzestan has been one of the important centers for producing handmade fabrics in Iran. Today, some of these traditional fabrics are also active in the province, one of the most prosperous ones is Ahrami Bafi. Ahrami texture does not have a map and is usually woven with two colors of white and black. Of course, Ahrami is woven in other pairs such as "green and white" and "red and white". In some areas of the province, colorful aramids are woven with a woolen blanket. This fabric has been used more often in the Hajj, but nowadays it is woven for various uses. Due to the increase in the arrivals of travelers and tourists; there was an increase in production of different types of floor coverings, bedsteads, robes, and many other things that have a lot of fans. This native art is more prevalent among rural and nomadic populations.


Ababafi in some parts of the province such as Behbahan is about five centuries old. Khouzestani Aba that is traditionally woven and usually made of woolen yarns is made from sheepskin wool. Since these woolen yarns are not colored and they are natural in wool, these are woven in white, brown, black and gray colors. According to the use of the Aba, the thickness of the threads used in the fabric vary very much. In the woven texture of the “Heleh”, which is used specially for the summer, thin wool is used, in addition in the Aba that are used  in the winter, thick threats are used.

Reed pen

Reed pen is one of the most important tools of calligraphy that is made by cutting and shaping different kinds of straw. The dating of the use of a Reed pen for writing, dates back to the ancient Egyptian era. In that time, they used Reed pen to write down on the papyrus. The most prominent type of Reed pen is the Dezfouli type, which is made from the reeds grow around the trees in. Reed is an indigenous plant that grows along the Dez River and its crop is unique to the area. Reed pen production in Dezful has a long history (more than five centuries), with some family names associated with tribal production in this area. Reed pen that are produced in Dezful is more durable than other types of Reed pen. In addition to using the calligraphy professors and skilled artists, the same features also allow the Dezfouli font to be exported to other countries.
